What Is the Difference on Engraving and Corrosion Gravure

According to the production process of gravure printing plate, gravure printing can be divided into engraving and corrosion gravure.

1. Processing of Engraving and Intaglio Gravure

Engraving gravure processing is the use of electric engraving machine, with different angles of the needle hitting in the copper gravure roller, forming different depths of the V-groove, then coating wear-resistant chromium layer on gravure roller surface, then polished , machine printing plate is done. The ink transfers to the printing material by the V-groove during the printing porcess.
Corrosion gravure is the use of imaging technology, making the image in the copper surface of gravure roller, after corrosion, the roller surface to form U-groove, and then chrome-plated and polished surface treatment.

2. Comparison on Engraving and Intaglio Gravure

The use and performance on engraving and intaglio gravure is similar, but the life of the two are quite different.
The V-groove of the engraved intaglio surface wears, the depth of the groove becomes shallow. As the width of the V-groove bottom becomes narrower, the area of the dot becomes smaller, the ink quantity decreases gradually, the ink color becomes lighter quickly, then the service life over. If the depth of control is not well controlled during the engraving process, it will also affect the printing quality, too deep in the printing process is likely to cause ghosting; too shallow will affect the life of the plate.
Corrosion layout surface is a U-shaped groove, with the plate wears, groove depth shallows, but the dot area has not changed, and its ink reduction is relatively slow, the printing color is not much change, so its service life is relatively long.
At present, the manufacturers in China mostly adopt gravure engraving plate, etching plate is mainly prouced and adopted by foreign manufacturers, and the price is relatively high.
