What Is Hot Foil Stamping and Hot Foil Printing

Foil stamping, (also known as foil application) typically a commercial printing process, is the application of metallic or pigmented foil on to a solid surface by application of a heated die onto foil, making it permanently adhere to the surface below leaving the design of the die.

Hot stamping is a dry printing method of lithography in which predried ink or foils are transferred to a surface at high temperatures. The non-polluting method has diversified since its rise to prominence in the 19th century to include a variety of colors and processes.

Foil-stamped are part of flat-printed collection that integrates customizable flat-printed text with a fixed gold design that is lightly pressed into the card to add a shiny effect. The foil stamping effect is applied to the card design, but the text is always printed flat.

Metallic text is only available on fine-printed collection, which use custom-plates and different printing processes.

Foil stamped cards are a great option for those looking for a gold, rose gold, or silver metallic effect on their cards without using fine print methods, which take longer to produce and usually have a higher cost due to their unique production process.
