Heat transfer and Hot Stamping

Hot stamping and heat transfer both require heat, pressure and dwell (time) to apply an image to a part. However, heat transfers are pre-printed images using silk screened, gravure, flexography or digital printing methods on a release paper or film; whereas, hot stamp images are created by the art in the die. Heat transfers can be one-color or multi-colored images, while hot stamping is generally one color.

Though the equipment are similar, hot stamping equipment can not be used to apply a heat transfer, as applying a heat transfer requires an eye mark registration system.

Hot stamping can be done on a variety of plastic substrates including: PE and PP (no treatment of the surface is necessary). The imprint will not be affected by various sterilization methods such as steam autoclave, ETO(Ethylene Oxide) or radiation.

With the development and well-rounded of hot stamping foil, hot stamping foil has been applied to many other field, such as paper, textile, PU leather, Cloth. Meanwhile, multi-colored of hot stamping foil is also available.

Major manufacturers choose hot stamping over other printing methods for the following reasons:

   1. Security and Safety – Accurate match between label copy and contents is assured.

   2. Economy and Savings – Exact number of bags are imprinted, not more, not less.

   3. Flexibility – Hot stamp machines can be stopped for operator break. No clean-up required at end of        shift or workday.

   4. Cleaner Process – No solvents, no odor, and no fire hazard.

   5. Ease of Operation – No special operator skills are required.

   6. Quality – Consistent and easy-to-read imprint.
